Xiaomi Mi5 launches- All you need to know!

The highly anticipated flagship by Xiaomi had a lot of leaks and rumour's for a lot of time. And now the company has officially launched the phone at the Mobile World Congress today, a few hours back.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15 inch Full HD 1080p display with a 16 LED light backlight technology which gives a brighter picture (600 nits) and is 17% more power efficient.

The Mi 5 comes with a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor with PDAF autofocus and a pixel-to-pixel isolation technology. It also has 4 axis OIS, a first for a smartphone. The front camera of the phone is 4MP with large pixels, which is very good for low light pictures.

For the first time Xiaomi has put a fingerprint scanner on the front side of any of its devices. The fingerprint scanner has become a very important feature of today's smartphones as it provides users with added security. As we told the Mi 5 will have a fingerprint scanner on the front, this phone will also have a physical home button.

During the launch event Hugo Barra went into quite some detail about how Xiaomi invested a lot of time in adding a home button and fingerprint reader, but without compromising on the position of other components or without increasing the thickness and weight of the device. Surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi 5 weigh's a mere 129 grams, which is way lesser than other flagship devices including the iPhone 6S and the Samsung Galaxy S7.

The Mi 5 is just 7.25 mm thin. This is pretty suprising as the phone also has a big 3000mAh battery. The battery support's Qualcomms Quick Charge 3.0 and according to Xiaomi the phone can charge from 0-80% within an hour. In fact, just a 10 minute charge will give you enough power to watch a 150 minute movie!
Speaking about the OS of the phones, yes, you got it right, the Mi 5 comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0 with an added layer of MIUI 7 on it.

The phone comes in three varients which are- 32GB, 64 GB and 128GB. The 128GB version is named "Mi 5 Pro" by the company.

I must say that Xiaomi has priced their latest flagship very well. In India, it is much cheaper than it's newest rival LeEco, and has better feature's too.

Mi 5 Pro – Snapdragon 820 (2.15GHz), 128GB flash, 4GB RAM, ceramic back: Rs 28300 (2699 RMB with tax)
Mi 5 64 – Snapdragon 820 (2.15GHz), 64GB flash, 3D glass back: Rs 24100 (2299 RMB with tax)
Mi 5 32 – Snapdragon 820 (1.8GHz), 32GB flash, 3GB RAM, 3D glass back: Rs 21000 (1999 RMB with tax)

It will go on sale in China on Mi.com first, then India and after that it will launch in the other parts of the world.
