Over the last couple of weeks, there were numerous articles, youtube videos praising the Snapdragon 845 powered Xiaomi Poco F1.
So let us see what the problems with this phone are after my usage for about 3 weeks now (Got it in the first sale)
The most commonly reported POCO F1 issue is related to the multi touch. Xiaomi has said that the ghost touch issues revealed by the MultiTouch tester app were caused by the app itself. However, it did ask fans to stay tuned for the coming updates as it is still investigation the issues with multitouch gestures.
Another issue I noticed on the phone was with the most trending game PUBG.
It was working well enough until the latest update after which the notch hides a lot of icons like online friends, mode and when you start the game, half of the corner buttons get hidden. It isnt a very huge issue because you can rotate the screen and it would be fine.
Another issue that i could not find on the internet but i face is about "copy + paste"
I dont know if it is just me but when you are dragging while copying some content, it feels very choppy compared to other phones. Let me know in the comment section if you face the same
There are also other smaller issues such as Asphalt 9 not being compatible with the phone, which is now fixed. The lack of Widevine support due to which streaming HD content on Netflix, Amazon Prime and other video apps isnt possible also is troubling quite a few people, but i feel the colours are good enough to give you nice viewing experience.
Also, the big chin and bezels make the phone look a little ugly comared to most other notch phones in the market, but at just 20999, you cant complain much!
Screen Bleed Issue
Perhaps, the biggest issue that most Poco F1 users are facing is the screen bleed issue. Luckily I am not one of them facing the same.
So what exactly is this issue all about?
The issue first came to light after users on XDA Forums started posting images of their Poco F1 with obvious screen bleed. Most of the affected units had issues near the bottom of the panel near the ‘chin’ when the LCD backlight is located.
As the thread gained in popularity, several other users also checked their Poco F1 units for screen bleed as well – only to realise that a few of their units too had the same problem. At the same time, there were a set of users who confirmed that their units did not have this issue. In fact, apart from the aforementioned thread on XDA Forums, people have created threads on Xiaomi’s own MIUI Forums and on Reddit.
Is your Poco F1 affected? How to check
In case you are the owner of a brand new Poco F1, you can also check for screen bleed. The easiest way to spot this is to switch to a dark theme and look at the bottom edge of the display. If you see the dark colours progressively turn pale towards the edges, this is mostly due to backlight bleeding. Please note that there are some themes that can mimic this effect.
Another way to test this is to go to the settings menu and ‘About Phone’ and then click ‘Kernel Version’ four times. You will enter the test mode after this. In this mode, select ‘Display’ following which the handset will display red, green and blue colours. Check if the colours turn pale towards the bottom edges. If this is easily noticeable even during daytime, your device does suffer from display bleed.
So is the phone worth your money?
Frankly speaking, Xiaomi could have tested the phone more and minimized bugs before launching it in the market, but with the unit i have, i only faced minor issues.
With the Snapdragon 845 with liquid cooling, an amazing AI camera, better than decent speakers and a price much lesser compared to it's competition like the Asus zenfone 5Z and the OnePlus 6, this phone is absolutely all the money you are paying for it.
